Globalisation Globalisation is a term, which has invoked extensive academic debate over its impact and credibility, giving rise to a number of perspectives harboured by their respective scholars. Resulting from this division is a lack of universal acceptance towards a single definition beyond broad descriptions such as increased global interconnectedness.† Hence in order to gain an understanding of the phenomena it is necessary to distinguish between its two major forms, and the various agents involved. Nationalism In The Global VillageINTRODUCTIONWith the dawning of the information age there has been a shrinking of relative distances between people and places all over the world. With an increase in international communication comes an increase in cultural sharing. Cultures all over the planet reflect influences of neighboring cultures and other international trading partners. As these and many other factors work towards creating a global village many people are baffled by the increase in nationalism. Nationalism is a highly emotional phenomenon and as such is very unpredictable. Nationalism is far beyond its peak and the current rise is likely only an indicator of the transitional stage of globalization.GLOBAL VILLAGEToday it is common to here the term "global village" used in every day conversation. It is also common to here someone say, "What the hell is the global village?" The global village is the idea that the world and its people form an interconnected social whole, a village of common interests and concerns, linked by global communication, media, and rapid international transportation. The global village has emerged via the birth of the information age. Technological advances have continually stretched the bounds of our communication abilities and by using improving cellular phone technology or the Internet any individual can interact with another individual from a completely different culture. Since it is so easy and affordable to engage in these cross-cultural experiences, more and more people have been doing so. Cross-cultural exchanges often rise from or result in common interests or concerns developing. For example, international companies have a vested interest in the economies of the various countries in which they conduct business. The stronger the economies the better business will be. This is the sort of common interest and concern that the global village encompasses. All cultures are continually evolving and the information age has increased the ability of one culture to influence another culture. As all cultures begin to adopt features of other cultures the population of the planet begins to develop a homogenous culture.

Proving Yourself to the World and to Others. In the world today, people are faced with having to prove themselves to others. They are stuck knowing that by their flaws and mistakes, the world is just ready to put them on a shelf just like everyone else. In the book,â€Å"The Pact,† three best friends, Sampson Davis, George Jenkins and Rameck Hunt, strive to prove to the world and to their families that they can break away from the statistics, of turning to dugs and never making anything out of their lives, that could be set out to haunt them. That is just what my good friend; Carrie would have to face during her high school year. I met Carrie my junior year of high school. We did not become friends instantly but gradually over time we started to talk. I was friends with her boyfriend at the time and always was there to talk to him and help him during lunch with any situation that would come up. He always came to talk to me about what was happening in his relationship with Carrie. I tried to give him as much advice as possible without knowing who Carrie was. There was one instant where Carrie was supposable pregnant but would later find out it was a false alarm. They were on and off half of the year, but something would change everything. Carrie became pregnant half way through her sophomore year. At that time, I started to talk to Carrie. We were starting to become best friends and I realized that with all the problems she was going through with her boyfriend and her pregnancy, all I could do was help her with any problem she may face like falling behind in school or with her boyfriend. It was hard on her because here she was still in high school and she was about to become a mother. Her boyfriend was never there for her during this important time and I let him know about it during lunch. All I ever heard from them was arguments and breakups. They never could decide what they wanted. After countless arguments, Carrie got annoyed and ended the relationship. She would not consider adoption and was against abortion. To her, it would be hard to give up a child and never see the child’s first walk, or hear the first words. So to her the only good choice was to have the baby and care for it.

North Carolina was a place filled with discrimination and racism. There were places where African Americans couldn't eat or shop in the same stores. Although slavery was over, some of the feelings that whites felt towards blacks were still empresses. With that being said, on February 6, 1960, four young men that went to A university decided that they should make a stand against discrimination in their town. I can remember the day like yesterday. It was the middle of February when they people started talking about doing the next sitIn, I knew that I would be there taking a stand with the rest of my people. We went Into the diner and Immediately sat down at the counter as tables. When I mean that there were hundreds of people that came down to help support the movement. And It wasn't all blacks that supported, there were whites down there too who helped In the sit-ins. We sat there for hours on edge Just walling for someone to service us, but they just stared. For a long time they Just watched us Like we were aliens. They didn't know whether to be confused or angry. After some time had past, they had soon called the cops.And to the officers surprise, they were out numbered by a lot. They had to call for back up just to start to get us out. We made sure we stood our ground and made sure we kept our composure. It had gotten really bad too. People were throwing drinks at us, food, and anything else that they thought would provoke us into reacting in a negative way. The police officers started to get physical and violent and we weren't even do anything wrong. All we wanted was to be serviced and waited on. What's the difference between blacks money and whites?
